The Jakarta hotel bombings will not cripple Bali’s all-important tourism industry, say event organizers on the resort island.
Society of Indonesia Professional Convention Organizers chairman Putu Juarez R. Putra said Tuesday the industry’s optimism was based on the fact the island will still host several major international events this year.
“Organizers of international conferences that will be attended by large numbers of delegates are still looking at Bali as the host venue,” he said. Read the rest of this entry »

(17/7), Pemerintah Kabupaten Badung berencana memasang puluhan CCTV
(closed circuit television) di kawasan wisata Kuta. “Kami akan segera
memasang sebanyak 35 CCTV di kawasan Kuta. Proses pemasangannya
dimotori oleh Mabes Polri,” jelas Bupati Badung Anak Agung Gde Agung
usai menghikuti Rapat Koordinasi Pengamanan di Mapoltabes Denpasar
Sabtu (18/7).

Hingga
Sabtu (18/7), tingkat hunian hotel masih tetap tinggi. “Tingkat hunian
tandasnya.

Tourism in Bali has been unaffected by Friday’s deadly suicide bombings on two luxury hotels in Jakarta, officials have said.
“The hotel occupancy rate remains at between 70 and 80 percent. There is yet to be a negative reaction,” head of the Bali Tourism Agency Ida Bagus Ngurah Wijaya told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.
Wijaya added the agency has yet to see any decline in visitors coming from Australia, even though the country has issued a travel warning following the blast, which are believed to have killed three Australians.
Wijaya said that tourism businesses were expecting the government would take firm action to prevent similar attacks in the future.

The island’s tourism slogan, “Shanti Shanti Shanti”, is confusing to residents and tourists despite being introduced one-and-a-half years ago, a personal survey conducted by local writer Ande Putu Setiawan says.
The study, conducted for Putu’s new book, surveyed 300 respondents consisting equally of foreign and domestic tourists and local residents of Kuta, Badung. Read the rest of this entry »

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika predicted the Australian government’s recent issuance of an advisory against traveling to Indonesia would not affect Bali’s tourism industry.
The travel advisory was announced in anticipation of the execution of the three convicted Bali bombers — Amrozi, Mukhlas, alias Ali Gufron, and Imam Samudra — which has been scheduled to take place at the high-security prison on Nusakambangan Island in Cilacap regency, Central Java, in November. Always a favorite vacation destination, Bali has recently been inundated by domestic tourists during the current Idul Fitri holidays. Thousands of motorcycles and cars (see photo) have signed up to enter Bali via Gilimanuk port, Bali’s westernmost gateway located in Jembrana regency.
Operational manager of Gilimanuk Port Ospar Silabam said Tuesday the peak of domestic arrivals in Bali from Java through the port was recorded Sept. 27 and 28, with the number of ferry travelers reaching tens of thousands per day.
“They mostly came by motorcycle and car,” Ospar said, adding that they were from various cities in Java such as Surabaya, Malang and Yogyakarta.
At the same time masses of domestic tourists were entering Bali through Gilimanuk, Ospar said, thousands of Balinese residents of Javanese descent were departing from Bali to join up with relatives to celebrate Idul Fitri in Java.
The peak of the egress from Bali through Gilimanuk took place Sept. 27 with a total number of motorcycles reaching 11,000 and 4,500 cars on the day.
Ospar predicted the high traffic of holiday travelers making day visits through tomorrow (Oct. 4).
“As Sunday will be the last holiday, we predict the peak in visitors will take place Saturday,” he said. One tourist from Surabaya, Andi, said he intentionally goes to Bali by car to economize. “I drive because then the whole family can come along,” said the father of three.(The Jakarta Post)
